Forgehill Cezanne finally gets his reward A major event in the programme for three-year-old Purebred Arabians, the Group 1 PA Prix Kesberoy produced a thrilling battle between two very good horses, which was eventually won by Forgehill Cezanne (Dormane) who beat Spleen (Njewman) by a head. Trained by Damien de Watrigant, the colt’s performance did not come as a surprise: “He was still very green when he got beat on his first two starts,” said the trainer. “And recently at Chantilly, he encountered some traffic problems. So we were really counting on today, even more so, as he loves the fibre track and that he seemed in better form than last time. He was last coming into the straight, boxed in by horses that were coming back onto him. He came with a late challenge and plenty of juice to win convincingly. We will now look at the Qatar Total French Arabian Breeders’ Challenge at the beginning of October at Saint-Cloud.” As to the runner-up Spleen (Njewman), trained by Robert Litt, the filly confirmed that her brilliant group 3 PA victory in the Prix Razzia III at La Teste in July was only the start on the road to greater achievements. Star Yac (Al Sakbe) finished a further five lengths back in third. The Prix Kesberoy certainly shed some light on the pecking order of the three-year-olds, even though not all runners might have produced their best form on this type of surface. However, Forgehill Cezanne (Dormane) certainly produced quite some magic to win, following an unlucky run and an unfavourable position when entering the straight. The best is certainly still to come.
